Rules & Regulations

  • Every participating school must have a 3 Digit School Code provided by The Connecticut Classic Team. If your school participated in The Classic since 2018, your school has a 3 Digit School Code. Please contact your schools administrator for their registration code.

  • For new schools participating in the 2020 competition or you are registering as an independent competitor, please fill out this form to receive your 3 digit code.

  • Each participant will need to upload a headshot via WeTransfer. Each picture file must be renamed with the Competitors full name and age division.

  • Please upload all competition music online by Sunday, February 2, 2020. Music Upload Checklist

  • Professional dancers are not permitted to compete. A Professional dancer is defined as anyone who is employed as a full-time dancer with a professional dance company on a yearly contract that engages the dancer at least 26 weeks per year. This also includes dancers who are not currently employed under such contract, but have been in the past.

  • The Official Connecticut Classic reserves the right to use any photo or video recording of the participants’ performances during the competition for promotional purposes.

  • Entries will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, and registration will be closed when the quota is reached or one month before the competition, whichever comes first.

  • All solo participants have the choice of performing one or two of the variations from the classical ballet repertoire list. Youth Division variations may be adapted to fit the participants technical abilities.

    Please Note: Youth Division participants are not required to perform en pointe.

  • NEW RULE: Pas De Deux (PDD) must be chosen from our classical repertoire list. A participant may dance with a non competing partner. Coaches may adapt choreography to fit the level of the participating contestant. The PDD will be judged on technique and artistry of competitor and the overall audience appeal of the piece. Awards will be given on merit ONLY and at the discretion of the judges. Competing participants must be between the ages of 12-20 and there is NO age restriction on non competing partners. Participants performing in the PDD may perform the adagio and the optional coda.

  • If there is a sufficient number of male competitors, a male division will be created

  • ALL variations must be limited to 2 minutes and 30 seconds (2:30). We cannot accept variations longer than the allotted time.

Deadline:

The Official Connecticut Classic must receive participants’ on-line registration and music/music updates no later than Sunday, February 2, 2020. TBA’s and music updates not received by this date will acquire a $10 penalty fee per entry.

Refunds:

The Connecticut Classic has a NO REFUND policy.

In the case of injury, The Connecticut Classic should be notified immediately by the participant, parent or teacher with a doctors note.

Video/Photography:

All Variations and Pas de Deux's will be filmed and photographed during the competition. A professional digital video will be sent via email and is included in your Registration Fee for each participant.  All competitors will be able to purchase individual photographs at the competition.  All registrations include the Master Class, unless participant is only taking the Master Class.
